Medium loamy soils; Lavender flowers bloom in late spring; Spectacular bright violet to magenta berry-like drupes. Seeds and berries are an important food source for birds

Spice Bush (Lindera benzoin) — Shrub; Sun to shade; Moist soil but will tolerate drier; 10 feet high and wide; Flowers dioecious, yellow and tiny in early spring, red berries in fall; Attracts birds, bees and butterflies (Spice bush swallowtail)

Tolerates shade; Moist, acidic sandy soils; Fragrant rose-pink flowers in late summer; Yellow to golden-brown foliage in fall; Flowers attract bees and butterflies

Green-blue foliage, turning bright yellow in fall; Attracts songbirds. Source of late fall nectar
