Pollarded Trees

Pollarded Trees

The Pollarded Trees presents a variety of deciduous trees that have been kept small and compact.

Pollarding has been used for centuries in Europe and part of Asia, primarily in formal gardens. This high maintenance style of pruning reduces the size of a tree's crown through repeated, annual planned cuts at the same branch location.

It takes Bartlett arborists about two weeks in late fall to maintain the collection which originated with the Bartlett Tree Expert Company. The small size of the trees is an aid to research as it makes applications of new and different disease treatments easy to apply and convenient to monitor.
