Join us for an informative Backyard Gardening Series. The first of many will take place on March 1st. The topic will be "All About Weeds." A fantastic way for beginner gardeners to gain valuable knowledge to get ready for gardening!
As the spring and summer months approach, gardeners can expect weeds of all kinds to emerge from the soil to distract from the beauty of their gardens and landscapes.
Master Gardener Peter Russell will discuss the undesirable qualities of weeds, their lifecycles, and reproductive strategies. He will show you how to identify the weeds typically found in the local landscape, some practical suggestions to address the four keys to weed control including weed composting considerations.
Peter Completed the University of Connecticut Master Gardener Program in 2012, achieving Advanced Master Gardener certification in 2013. Peter is a member of the Board of Directors of the Bartlett Arboretum and Gardens in Stamford Connecticut and Chairman of its Buildings and Grounds Committee. In addition to conducting Weed identification and control workshops and presentations to Master Gardeners, garden clubs and other organizations in the region, Peter is a mentor for the Bartlett Arboretum Master Gardener Program Interns, volunteers in the Arboretum’s perennial gardens throughout the spring and summer and works with corporations and organizations volunteering on projects on the Arboretum’s 93 acre campus.
