Banner art: "Flora" by Pamela Tucker
Garden Tour 2017 was held this past June with local artists volunteering their talents to illustrate the magnificent gardens on this year’s tour.
Each artist captured the beautiful landscapes and scenery of the Arboretum and private gardens located in Stamford, New Canaan, and Chappaqua, NY.
Their collected works will be on exhibit in the Silver Educational Center Gallery.
Deborah Pierce Bonnell is a painter whose focus is landscapes and abstractions from nature. Working in several media, including oil on canvas, encaustic on panel, watercolor, and printmaking, she looks to the patterns, shapes, and light in trees and plants to inform her designs.
Ilse Gordon is known for her local landscapes of public parks and private gardens. A graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, she also studied at the Art Students’ League and The National Academy where she received a Merit Scholarship. A versatile artist, she is an accomplished print maker, loves drawing and painting from the human figure, and revels in creating many travel sketchbooks, drawing her observations of beach figures, musicians, and life around her in general.
Hazel Jarvis paints images of the natural world - maps, botanicals, landscapes and mixed media collages. Born in England but having studied in Japan her work incorporates both the highly decorative Japanese appreciation of nature and a traditional British approach to illustration and water media. Hazel lives and teaches in Greenwich, CT. To learn more, please visit www.hazeljarvis.com.
Kathie Milligan’s artwork involves the many facets of landscape and how it relates to her life, interests, and surroundings. She crosses the line between representation and abstraction, employing the interaction of shapes and the use of color, light, and rhythm to convey her feelings about the forces of nature and how they relate to her. Kathie finds excitement in the power of rebirth; of nature’s magical ability to create new life and renewed hope.
