Chamber Concert by top-notch performers -The Fontenay Chamber Players – a group of eight amazing instrumentalists whose music has been hailed as “radiant”, “haunting” and “a brilliant tour de force” will be featured in a concert at The Bartlett Arboretum on Sunday, September 23rd from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. The program will include a varied musical selection from the Entr’acte from Bizet’s beloved opera Carmen, to the delight of Respighi’s Ancient Airs and Dances, to the lush harmonies of Debussy’s Clair de Lune, and more. The Fontenay Chamber Players is composed of well-known professional performers from all over the tri-state area with Maryly Culpepper, flutist, Kathryn Taylor, clarinetist, Dan Culpepper, French Hornist, Wendy Kerner, harpist, Deborah Wong and Arthur Moeller, violinists, Chiu-Chen Liu, violist and Rob LaRue, cellist.
The Fontenay Chamber Players was formed in 2003 and has garnered critical acclaim and raves from audiences and presenters. The group has appeared in diverse settings including Caramoor in New York, Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, Bennington College in Vermont, and The Hat City Opera Company, Greenwich Academy, Sacred Heart University and the Pequot Library in Connecticut. A review cited the groups' "radiant meshing of color", "visceral excitement", "warmth", "crispness" and "special tension". The Fontenay Chamber Players was chosen for the artist roster of the CT Commission on Arts and Tourism and receives support from the Suzanne LaFollette Culley Charitable Foundation. The group is named for a French town with a connection to the composer Ravel, whose luminous Introduction and Allegro is the group’s inspiration.
