Tracking animalstracks

Did you ever wonder what animals have left those tracks in the backyard?  Birthday party guests explore the arboretum grounds finding all sorts of animal’s footprints.  Once we discover some cool tracks we can go inside and each guest decorates a t-shirt with footprint stamps and fabric paint we provide.

Pretty Plantingpotting

Your guests will experience the excitement that accompanies planting their very own flower.  Kids start by painting a 6” terra cotta pot and plant flowers from seasonally available seeds or seedlings.  Guests may also explore the vast greenhouse collection of potted plants.

Birds are singingbirdhouse

Kids may not be able to whistle but they are excited to imitate sounds like a Robin’s kleeip or an Eastern Towhee’s tew-whee.  Once we have a flock of birds we will set to work building a bird feeder.  Kids decorate and bring home these crafts and will surely think of their friend’s birthday party every time they watch a bird eat at it.

Dinosaurs Aliveferns

Guests explore the seemingly prehistoric plants alive today at the Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens.  In our greenhouse and on our grounds cycads and ferns so closely resemble dinosaur habitat we may forget these are not Triassic times.  Back inside guests decorate their very own dinosaur and make their own fossils.

Swamp Walkswamp

Guests explore our 7 acre red maple swamp, a rarity to find intact in the northeast.  Kids will peer off the boardwalk discovering snakes, turtles, and fish, not to mention the bounty of unique swamp plants.  Kids use nets and hand lens to investigate the lives of frogs and insects.

Happy Habitats

Kids observe the basics of habitats found at the Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens and chose the important elements of them.  They then build a terrarium with these basic elements.  They plant seed or plants they find and introduce small animals to control them.
