The Sundial Garden
This garden’s mix of annuals, bulbs and perennials creates
contrasts in color, texture and height. Impressive stands of
pink flowering Asclepias incarnate ‘Cinderella’ (Butterfly
Weed) attract true to the common name a multitude of butterflies
as do the scented flowers of the tiny, gray-leaved Dianthus ‘Pixie’. You
will notice a number of Achillea, Geranium and Salvia cultivars
which, so far, have proven to be resistant to deer browsing. The
same holds true for most gray leaved or highly scented plants like Lavendula and Monarda. The
yellow flowers of Phlomis russelliana and Achillea ‘Moonshine’ offset
the mostly blue, lavender and pink flowering perennials. AAS annuals
like Carnation ‘Can-Can Scarlet’, Cosmos ‘Cosmic
Orange’, Dianthus ‘Corona Cherry Magic’, Zinnia ‘Magellan
Coral’ and ‘Zowie! Yellow Flame’ add more color
and contrast.
