Plants
for these areas are selected for all season color. In
front of the terrace dark reds and purples of Breynia disticha ‘Roseopicta’ (Hawaiian
Snowbush), Dahlia ‘Night Queen’, Alternanthera
ficoidea ‘Red Threads’, Fuchsia ‘Gartenmeister
Bonstedt and Canna ‘Ingeborg’ are highlighted
by the lime-green of Ipomoea ‘Sweet Caroline Lime’ as
well as the clear green of Eucomis bicolor. Later
in the season the deep blue of Tibouchina semidecandra will
be added to the blues of Heliotrope to provide yet another
contrast.
The entrance area in front of the Charter Oak is planted with blue and pink blooming Salvias as well as a pink Gazania ‘Rose Kiss’; Acalypha ‘Copperleaf Plant’, Eranthemum nigrum ‘Ebony’ and Lotus berthelotti echo the plantings of one of the Amphorae.
The other side of the entrance is dominated by Larix Pendula ‘Varied Direction’ with its clear light green needles. Pelargonium ‘Crystal Place’ , Lantana ‘Samantha and ‘Athens Rose’, Cuphea ‘David Verity’ set off this green with red, orange and yellow flowers.
The west-facing bed near the living room bay window is home to our collections of Helleborus. Hellebores maintain their green foliage almost year round. Here they are joined by Alchemilla mollis and Alchemilla Erythropoda, Adiantum pedatum,Hakonechloa macra and several Hosta cultivars. Purple leafed Fuchsia, Begonias and Coleus together with coral blooming Impatiens contrast with the greens of the perennials
