How can our own yards become part of the solution to restoring natural systems? In this engaging evening talk, Lydia Pan will explore how incorporating native plants into our landscapes can support biodiversity and provide essential food and shelter for wildlife.

Beyond simply choosing native species, this presentation will offer guidance on selecting the right plants for the right place, along with key landscape features and management practices that help create a thriving, ecologically rich habitat garden.

About the Speaker
Lydia C. Pan, PhD, is President of the Wild Ones Mountain Laurel Chapter and a passionate advocate for native plant gardening. A retired pharmaceutical scientist with degrees from Yale and UC San Diego, Lydia now focuses her work on ecological landscaping and biodiversity conservation. Inspired by the research of Doug Tallamy, she has transformed her own suburban yard into a diverse native plant habitat, many grown from local seed.

Lydia leads habitat restoration efforts at Coogan Farm in Mystic, replacing invasive species with native plants, and shares her knowledge through public speaking, teaching, and community engagement. She also volunteers with the Connecticut College Arboretum, Native Plant Trust, and serves on the Board of the Eastern Connecticut Conservation District.
