Arboriculture Course 2026

Arboriculture Course: Registration Now Open

The Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens is proud to offer Arboriculture 2026, a comprehensive course designed for those interested in pursuing a career in tree care and maintenance. This program provides the foundation needed to prepare for the Connecticut Arborist Exam and to build essential skills for professional practice.

Classes are taught by leading professionals in the field and cover a wide range of topics, including:

  • Tree biology and identification

  • Safety practices and equipment use

  • Pruning, cabling, and bracing

  • Insect and disease management

  • Planting, transplanting, and soil science

  • Integrated pest management

Participants will benefit from a mix of classroom instruction and practical field demonstrations on the Arboretum’s 93-acre living campus, home to hundreds of tree species and Champion Trees.

Schedule: Classes begin in January 2026 and continue through the spring.
Location: Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens, Stamford, CT.
Who should register: This course is ideal for landscape professionals, arborist trainees, environmental students, or anyone passionate about tree care.

Students who attend class, read the assigned materials; and work with the instruc- tors generally can expect to do well on the Connecticut Arborist Exam. Individual results are not guaranteed.

Instructors are highly regarded professionals in their fields.

PROGRAM COST: Members $450 and Non-Members $500

Pesticide Applicator’s Training Manual, 2nd Ed. (Core Manual)

IPM Guide for Arborists, UConn Cooperative Extension - Provided.

RECOMMENDED READING:

Pirone’s Tree Maintenance, 7th Ed., Oxford University Press, 2000 (Not included in course).

TIME & LOCATION

The course will meet primarily on Wednesday evenings from January to April, from 6-9 pm. Classes will be held in the Silver Educational Center at the Bartlett Arboretum and Gardens unless otherwise specified.

Pruning and Tree Identification workshop will be held on Wednesday, March 18th.

Any class cancelled due to weather will be re-scheduled.
