FREE for members, $10 for Non-Members. Meets the third Thursday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in the Silver Educational Center lobby.
About the Third Thursdays series:
A series led by Master Gardeners, each “walk and talk” will focus on a specific theme or section of the Bartlett, encouraging a deeper relationship with some of the special trees, plants, and animals that live and grow at the Bartlett.
Ferns are the oldest vascular plants in the world and numerous in number, yet most people know little about them nor their interesting history. The Alice Smith Allee at the Bartlett Arboretum and Gardens contains over 150 different varieties of ferns, the most of any garden in the Northeast. Come learn about and see this interesting group of plants. See the first plant to be protected by government legislation. Learn how ferns are connected to tea, quinine and rubber. Find out about which plants make good companion plants for ferns and some of their interesting facts as well.
As the series title indicates, this is a program for the curious! No special knowledge is required, but walking shoes and property attire are highly recommended.
Registration not required for members but is encouraged. Non-members: please register and pay online.
